Remembrance Day in Canada

Image
Remembrance Day There’s an important day on November 11 th which is  Armistice Day also known as  Remembrance Day .  It was a day I’d never heard of before I came to Canada.  When I was at the mall in Toronto, the soldier gave me a red flower called poppy to honor the soldiers. This action brought up my interest to research it.  This is a day to commemorate the soldiers who died in World War one and it also marked the armistice signed between the Allies of World War I and Germany at Compiègne, France at 5:45 a.m. In addition, the use of the poppy on Remembrance Day was inspired by the first lines of John McCrae’s poem, “ In Flanders Fields ” . This makes me think of the soldier at the mall has given me the bookmark with the poem on it. After reading it, I think it is a beautiful poem and it touches my heart.   On this day,  we went to Cenotaph to honor the soldiers who fought for the Canadians and sacrificed themselves for their country. Despite the freezing snow, the ceremo

First Time Watching a Hockey Game

King's University, Hockey, and Chinese Restaurant in Canada King's University We had another field trip! This time, we went to King’s University, which is a Catholic university located in London, Ontario. Different from the University of Toronto, it is a smaller university with smaller classes. There are many features about this school. For instance, the mindfulness room for meditation, the reading week, which students don’t have to go to school during the week twice a year in February and November, and a room for students to ask questions about their essays. What I like the most is their small classes because studying in small classes can actually make students learn with efficiency and be more productive in class. A small class can also make teacher-student relationship better because teachers can easily remember who they teach in class when teaching in smaller classes and know what is the best for each student. I also found out that they offer many kinds of scholarshi

Halloween in Canada!!

Corn Maze, Halloween, and all the fun stuff Corn Maze What’s better than going to the corn maze to have fun and have lunch with good friends on a clear and lovely sunny day in Canada? When the trip was about to start off, I met a girl from Spanish called Maisca on the school bus, and we found each other nice to chat with, so we had a lot of fun chatting with each other in the corn maze. The amazing yellow corn maze finally came into our sights, and we all couldn’t wait but jump out of the bus and run into the corn maze. There was a mysterious question sheet, which were all about corns, to lead us to the right path. Maisca and I discussed questions on the sheet together and found the right path in the end. The interesting thing was that we met a lot of people from all over the world in the corn maze. It’s so cool that everyone comes from different countries, different backgrounds, and different families, and we got to meet them! It was such a wonderful day to meet new people in th

First Day of School in Canada as an Exchange Student

Diary of the first day of school, after-school activity School life As an exchange student, what interests me most is the school life there. Today, the first day of school in Canada finally came. It surprised me that how different it is from the school life in Taiwan. All the things are so amazing. The school starts from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 classes a day (Schools in Taiwan: 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. 8 classes a day.)  I had fitness class, biology, math, and art. The fitness class is my most favorite class. (We don’t have fitness class in Taiwan.)  I think it is important to have one in every school, so that students will be both physically and mentally stronger as well as healthier. The second class was biology. I was amazed by the way of teaching and learning in class. We got a discussion sheet, so we went to the library to do some research and completed the whole paper through team work. Time flew, as lunch time came, we went to the cafeteria to enjoy our lunch. I had

Why I Stepped onto This Journey?

Why I Stepped onto This Journey? If you are living in countries between tropical and subtropical zone, you probably haven’t seen snow in your life. And one of my childhood dreams is to see and touch snow in person. But that’s definitely not the only reason why I want to experience the life in Canada as an exchange student. 1.The desire of wanting to know more about Canada As we all know, there are a lot of talented musical celebrities from Canada, such as Shawn Mendes, Justin Bieber, Alessia Cara, Avril Lavigne, Johnny Orlando, and so forth. Moreover, there are a lot of things attracting me before I actually went to Canada, for example, University of Toronto, Niagara Falls (one of the Seven Wonders) , CN Tower, and of course, friendly people there. But after I went to Canada, I realized Canada is way more than that. 2.Experience different education system I'm a traditional Taiwanese student who go to school from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and keep studying after school jus
